The Scottish Football Association and Community partner ‘McDonalds’ are delighted to support an exciting and new 4-year Primary Schools Football Programme which will provide the school with increased physical activity opportunities through the delivery of a comprehensive ‘Coaching and Games’ programme. In addition to the curricular coaching which will be delivered by Scottish FA trained coaches, a games programme will be established with the aim of creating a new boys team and a new girls’ team within all participating schools.

In the entire programme will provide the school with up to 40 hours of additional activity.

The programme has been designed to fit strategically with current education practice and will offer the school a number of key advantages as follows:

  • Additional links to new support agencies

  • Strategic fit with Health Promoting Schools scheme

  • Additional support via Active Schools programme

  • Innovative and exciting curriculum

  • Achievement towards recommendations for physical activity hours

The design of the programme has been informed by the principles of the new 3 to 18 curriculum to include challenges, breadth, progression, depth, choice, coherence and relevance and we hope that this will play its part in leading to successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

In addition, the programme has also been informed by many current national strategic policy documents and initiatives with the main influences being:

  • Scottish FA National Plan

  • Scottish FA Youth Action Plan

  • 3 to 18 curriculum

  • Active Schools

  • Health Promoting Schools

  • Sport 21

  • Towards a Healthier Scotland

  • Lets Make Scotland More Active

The SFA McDonalds programme presents a great opportunity to make a positive difference to young people in Scotland. Through football we can contribute towards developing successful learners with improved self-confidence, provide a better understanding of healthier lifestyles and ultimately provide enjoyment through physical activity.

SFA Primary School Football Festivals

The S.F.A. Primary School Football Festivals are hosted in each of the nine secondary school catchment areas. The Primary schools are invited to participate in fun sessions with other schools from their relevant high school cluster.

The format for the festivals, is small-sided games played on a fun basis with no points or trophies involved. The children participate in a safe healthy environment and are able to interact with children from the other primary schools.
