After two very successful open evenings held at Hibernian FC
and Heart of Midlothian FC over the past two weeks at their
respective training grounds, both clubs have committed to
supporting the grassroots game in the South East Region.
Both Bill Hendry (Academy Director, Hibernian FC) and John
Murray (Academy Director, Heart of Midlothian FC) provided
great information to coaches on the role of their youth
structures and provided an insight into the work carried out
by both clubs in developing young players. Both clubs were
very open about their respective development policies for
players and are very keen to support the development of the
grassroots game for the future.
Both clubs have made the unprecedented gesture of permitting
grassroots coaches to attend youth team training sessions
and gain valuable information into player development
sessions as well as some of the supporting programmes
alongside the technical training, such as nutrition, sports
science, and lifestyle management amongst other areas.
Academy
Director for Hibernian FC, Bill Hendry welcomed clubs to
visit the training ground at East Mains, nr Tranent and
speak with coaches about training and other programmes on an
ad hoc basis.
John
Murray, Heart of Midlothian Academy Director has also
pledged to support the clubs by offering coaches the
opportunity to attend training on Monday nights for the next
four weeks. If there is a strong attendance for these
sessions, it is likely that this will extend on a
longer-term basis.
Mark Munro, Scottish FA Regional Manager who arranged the
open evenings with both clubs stated “We have been delighted
by the attendance at both open evenings and both clubs have
been very open and honest about their respective policies
and development programmes. In particular, we would like to
thank Academy Directors, Bill Hendry and John Murray for
hosting both events. The support they have offered
grassroots clubs over the coming months is fantastic and we
hope that the grassroots coaches out there will accept their
kind offers to attend youth training sessions.
We
have established a good platform on which to improve
communication between the youth initiative clubs and the
grassroots game and we hope to continue with regular events
at both clubs that will provide good technical information
to volunteer coaches as well as our continued support
through numerous regional events through the Scottish FA
South East Region Coach Development Programme Calendar”.
Please note that coaches must notify the appropriate contact
before attending these sessions as it is crucial that
numbers attending are managed accordingly.
