Girl’s
football is the fastest growing sport in Europe with
an ever rising number of girls electing to participate
in the beautiful game. The Borders is no exception and
the programme has grown from strength to strength over
the last eight years.
There are opportunities
for all girls to take part in football centres for players aged 5 - 11
years of age at the many football centres run by the Football
Development Team (see Football Centres).
There is then a clear
pathway for girls to join the successful SFA Girls Development Centre
which has squads from 10 - 16 years of age. The coaching takes place at
Tweedbank Sports Complex on a weekly basis and is delivered by SFA
qualified coaching staff.
The aim of the
development programme is to provide a platform for girls with necessary
ability and attitude to train on a weekly basis.
