Aims and Objectives

Introduction
Scottish Borders Council and the Scottish Football Association have been working in partnership to provide a comprehensive football development programme for the Scottish Borders.

The aims of the programme are to provide opportunities for all to participate in the game of association football regardless of age, gender, race or ability.

Within this brochure we have compiled a comprehensive annual development programme that aims to follow guidelines set out from the Scottish Football Associations Youth Action plan and Scottish Borders Council’s Sport, Health, Activity and Physical Outdoor Education Strategy.

Within the football development programme we cover a variety of initiatives including , mini kickers, football centres, school holiday courses, schools programme, Scottish Borders Junior League, Development Squads, Midnight League Futsal, Coach Education,  Disability and Club Development programmes.

If you would like further information on any football development programmes please contact Sports Development Unit on 01896 756274 or go to website www.footballdevscotborders.co.uk

Sport and leisure activities play an integral part in contributing to the wider aims of the Scottish Borders Council.

Football is a particularly popular team sport and the most popular sport in the UK. For those participating it will come as no surprise that the sport plays a significant role in:

  • individual community development
  • relief of social deprivation
  • anti-poverty strategies

The "Future Goals" strategy has been brought together to harness the popularity of an exciting and accessible sport with the overall community benefits that come from participation and involvement in sport.
